Summary

Create the First Project

On Windows PowerShell, the official quick-start style command is:

irm https://create.tauri.app/ps | iex

If you already use npm, you can start with:

npm create tauri-app@latest

During setup, you typically choose:

  • project name
  • bundle identifier
  • frontend language
  • package manager
  • UI template
  • TypeScript or JavaScript flavor

For a first run, the Vanilla + TypeScript choice keeps the structure easy to inspect.

First Run Checks

The exact command depends on the package manager you selected. With pnpm, the flow commonly looks like this:

cd my-tauri-app
pnpm install
pnpm tauri dev

Do not check only that a window appears. Check:

  1. Does the dev server start?
  2. Does the Rust build start?
  3. Does the Tauri window open?
  4. Do frontend edits update?
  5. Do Rust-side edits in src-tauri trigger rebuilds?
  6. If it fails, can you identify whether the failure is OS dependency, Rust, Node, package manager, or Tauri config?

Instead of storing only the raw error, record which layer failed. That makes reproduction and support much easier.

Next Step

After the first app runs, read the project structure before adding features. In particular, understand src-tauri/, tauri.conf.json, src-tauri/src/lib.rs, and src-tauri/capabilities/default.json. Those files explain the boundary you will use later for commands and permissions.
